Abstract: Dark matter remains one of the most fundamental mysteries of the universe. I will present novel ideas in dark matter physics that inform where the first signals of dark matter may appear. After a brief review I will focus on a broad class of models where dark matter is made of light spin-1 particles. Obtaining the correct relic abundance for these particles has been an open problem in cosmology. I will present a mechanism to populate light spin-1 dark matter, opening up extensive parameter space for these models.
