Cosmological simulations of the formation of galaxies

Abstract: Cosmological hydrodynamical simulations of the evolution of galaxies have made rapid progress in recent years. I will review the key ingredients of such simulations, including the critical sub-grid models, and I will show the initial results from the EAGLE project.
