Line-intensity power spectra: basic linear theory and distortions away from real space

Dongwoo Chung (CITA) // February 22, 2023

Abstract: Line-intensity mapping experiments will trace high-redshift three-dimensional large-scale structure in various emission lines over a range of wavelengths. Models of the observable amplitude of line-intensity fluctuations influence survey design and scientific interpretation for these experiments. I will review a basic derivation of the line-intensity power spectrum in a simple halo model framework, in which the response of the line-intensity field to matter overdensities (or halos) determines the bias with which line-intensity fluctuations trace the underlying matter power spectrum. I will then move to consider the effect of various observational distortions, including not only redshift-space distortions in relation to large-scale structure, but also extended profiles of individual sources due to instrumental and astrophysical effects.
