Bart Ripperda and Maya Fishbach receive the 2023-2024 Connaught New Researcher Awards

The origin of Connaught Laboratories primarily stemmed from the unique public health vision and fearless determination of Dr. John Gerald FitzGerald (1882–1940).

The Connaught Fund supports the University of Toronto’s graduate students, early-career researchers, interdisciplinary teams, and innovators to meet the challenges facing our global society. The new researcher award helps early-career faculty members establish their research programs and increase competitiveness for external funding. Below are the recipients of the prestigious award from the Department of Physics for their upcoming projects:

Professor Bart Ripperda, a cross-appointed faculty at the Canadian Institute for Theoretical Astrophysics and the Department of Physics, received funding for his project on how do black holes shine: a probe of fundamental physics.

Professor Maya Fishbach, a cross-appointed faculty at the Canadian Institute for Theoretical Astrophysics and the Department of Physics, received funding for her project in probing Black Holes Over Cosmic History with Gravitational Waves.
