Abstract: In the last 20 years, a large number of stellar streams—structures created by disrupted dwarf galaxies and globular clusters—have been found around the Milky Way and Andromeda. In this talk, I will describe what these streams can tell us about the accretion history of the Milky Way, the gravitational potential and how it changes over time, as well as the dark matter distribution in our Galaxy and M31.
