Abstract: Generalization of the Hawking effect to dynamical trapping horizons is presented. We use the Hamilton-Jacobi formalism in the tunnelling picture and show how the idea of tunnelling recovers the results for future outer (black-hole type) and past inner (big-bang type) trapping horizons. While future outer and past inner horizons emit a thermal spectrum, we can show that quantum effects for future inner (big-crunch type) and past outer (white-hole type) trapping horizons lead to an absorptive Hawking effect.
