Planet migration by multi-planet gravitational interactions

Abstract: The question of what mechanism is responsible for delivering gas giant planets into orbits well inside the ice-line is one of the fundamental unresolved questions in planet formation. Planetary systems show strong evidence of a rich a dynamical history where gravitational interactions seem to have shaped their observed orbital architectures. I will show how different models of dynamical interactions can lead to the formation of close-in planets with different orbital architectures. I will compare the predictions of these models with the observations to shed light on the question of planet migration.
