ABSTRACT:A review on the soft X-ray background is presented, with emphasis on diffuse galactic
emission.
Particular attention is given to emission mechanisms for the galactic diffuse
background, the observational data, models of the 0.5-1 keV and of the 70-284 eV
emission, and limits on the extragalactic flux.
