The H I halo in the inner galaxy
F. J. Lockman;
ApJ, 1984, 283, 90
ABSTRACT:An analysis of H I at the subcentral (tangent) points in the inner Galaxy's first longitude quadrant indicates that it extends more than 1 kpc from
the galactic rotation as gas in the plane, and is even noted to exhibit
similar large scale streaming motions.
In the region of the Galaxy interior to
3 kpc, the H I lies only in a thin layer, with virtually no extension beyond
an absolute z value of 400 pc.
There are H I clouds at least 500 pc from the
plane.
