ABSTRACT:A technique of statistical study of the 3D small-scale structure of HI through interferometric observations is presented.
It allows for
anisotropy in turbulence statistics.
Analytical expressions for the structure
functions and the spectrum of 3D random density are obtained.
The results are
applied to the interferometric study of turbulence in H_I, and a simple relation
between the measured visibility function and the 3D turbulence spectrum is
found.
The latter result makes the interferometric study of turbulence unique in
the sense that ambiguities in the original and inverted data are shown to be
the same.
The application of theoretical conclusions to observational
data revealed a shallow 3D spectrum of random density in the studied HI
regions of the galactic disc.
