1999 – Frank Shu
Frank Shu, a past president of the American Astronomical Society, is a Professor of Astronomy at the University of California, Berkeley,
who now has the rare distinction of being appointed a UC-wide “University Professor”, an exclusive title that is reserved for scholars of international distinction. Prof. Shu’s other awards include the 2000 Dannie Heineman Prize for Astrophysics and the 1996 Dirk Brouwer Award.
Prof. Shu gave both a public lecture, entitled “The Origin of Stars & Planetary Systems”, and a technical talk entitled “Toward a Theory of Binary Star Formation” when he visited CITA in October of 1999.
