Large-angle CMB fluctuations in Compact Open Universes

= 0.3, 0.6, 0.9

COBE-normalized simulated sky of CMB temperature in m004(-5,1) compact hyperbolic model with =0.9 (lower panels) versus optimally filtered COBE DMR map (upper panels). The compact space has volume equal to the volume of the last-scattering sphere. Although closer to data than lower models, the noticeable hot-spot features allow to rule out even this model. You may view the structure of the correlation circles in the model.

COBE-normalized simulated sky of CMB temperature in m004(-5,1) compact hyperbolic model with =0.6 (lower panels) versus optimally filtered COBE DMR map (upper panels). Sphere of last-scattering encloses around 20 compact domains, each being a copy of the whole Universe.

COBE-normalized simulated sky of CMB temperature m004(-5,1) compact hyperbolic model with =0.3 (lower panels) versus optimally filtered COBE DMR map (upper panels). Sphere of last-scattering encloses around 150 compact domains, each being a copy of the whole Universe.
