The following table lists the documentation included with the Intel(R) C++ Compiler for Linux*.

Note

The placeholder term "<install-dir>" is used in the compiler documentation to represent the path to the compiler that you determine during installation. For IA-32 and IA-64 architectures, <install-dir> for a default installation as 'root' is /opt/intel/cc/10.0.xxx/, where xxx represents a 3-digit build number. For Intel(R) 64 architecture, <install-dir> is /opt/intel/cce/10.0.xxx/. All compiler files are installed below <install-dir>.

Document Description
Intel(R) C++ Compiler Documentation This is the main reference and user's document for the Intel C++ Compiler. The compiler documentation is provided as online help files in HTML format. Red text in this document indicates updates and modifications made to the online help content for a pre-release version. The Intel C++ Compiler documentation contains the following information:
  • Welcome to the Intel(R) C++ Compiler: describes major components, new features, related publications, and the product website.
  • Building Applications: describes building applications with the icc command, using the command-line environment, using the Eclipse integrated development environment, customizing the compilation environment and process, using debuggers, and using libraries.
  • Compiler Options: provides reference information about all compiler options, such as IDE categories, option name and syntax, default values, and a detailed description.
  • Optimizing Applications: describes how to optimize applications, including various optimizations, profiling applications and related profiling tools, coding guidelines, parallel execution, and using optimization-related directives and intrinsic procedures.
  • Floating-point Operations:
  • Compiler Reference: provides detailed reference information about the Intel Math Library and the Intel C++ Class Libraries.
  • Intrinsics Reference: provides detailed reference information about the Intel C++ Intrinsics.

Getting Started Guide The Getting Started Guide briefly introduces the Intel compiler and guides a new user through basic compiler operations. After product installation, the Getting Started Guide is located at:
<install-dir>doc/Getting_Started.htm

README Brief overview of the product, directory map for key product components, and links/pointers to information of importance to users both before and after product installation. Before installation the README document is located at the root level (i.e., same level as the installation script/executable) of either the installation CD or the electronic download package. After installation the README document is located at:

Product Release Notes The Product Release Notes contain the most up-to-date information about the product. The Product Release Notes are presented in both text and HTML formats. The information in the Release Notes includes:

  • Overview information (including new features and product contents)
  • System requirements (hardware and software requirements for installing and using the product)
  • Known limitations
  • Technical support (links to contacts for reporting problems and getting support)
Before installation the Release Notes document is located at the root level (i.e., same level as the installation script/executable) of either the installation CD or the electronic download package. After installation the Release Notes document is located at:

Installation Guide The Installation Guide provides detailed instructions that will normally be of use when the automated procedures do not happen or specialized install/uninstall steps need to be performed. The Installation Guide is presented in both text and HTML formats. The Installation Guide contains the following information:
  • Installation prerequisites.
  • Installation of the license.
  • Product installation steps.
  • Uninstall procedure.
Before installation the Installation Guide is located at the root level (i.e., same level as the installation script/executable) of either the installation CD or the electronic download package. After installation the Installation Guide is located at:

Preinstall_FAQ The Help-Me Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) document lists questions and brief answers for issues that users have during the start-up and installation phases for the product.  Each answer also has a web link that provides full details on the issue and related topics. The document also provides links to the registration, licensing, and technical support web sites. Before installation, the Preinstall_FAQ document is located at the root level (i.e., same level as the installation script/executable) of either the installation CD or the electronic download package. After installation, the Preinstall_FAQ document is located at:

Cluster OpenMP* Documentation This documentation describes Cluster OpenMP* support on systems based on Intel(R) 64 and IA-64 architectures. On these supported systems, the Users Guide is located at:
