I will be offering a mini-course on plasma/ism astrophysics this semester. It will meet from 12 to 1:15 on Jan 28, Feb 4, 11, 25, and March 4 and 11, in the 15th floor conference room. The emphasis is on the methods used to obtain quantitative information from emission line objects. All are welcome to sit in and participate.

There are two texts. The first is Rob Rutten's book "Radiative Transfer in Stellar Atmospheres", available as a set of postscript files from his web site, http://www.fys.ruu.nl/~rutten/Home.html go to the link "lecture notes 'radiative transfer . . ."

The second is the beginning of a book I am writing, also available as a postscript file. Anonymous ftp to gradj.pa.uky.edu, cd to pub/gjf, and binary get the gzip'd file plasma.ps.gz. After unzipping it will become a large postscript file. It was created with the 1999 version of the Adobe Postscript drivers, and so may not be viewable on older Unix viewers, but it should print ok.

If you want a course outline, please e-mail Arno (dirks@cita).
