CITA Invites you to the Toronto Astronomy Festival!
The International Year of Astronomy Kicks off in Toronto with a Big Bang!
Toronto's Astronomical community invites you to enjoy an all-day festival at the Ontario Science Centre.
Highlights include an exhibitors hall featuring local and national astronomy organizations, including CITA; observing the Sun's dynamic surface through safely-filtered telescopes; Space-themed music, films, and art; Astronomy workshops, displays, demonstrations, and free givaways and breathtaking images by Canadian astronomers.
There will also be renowned speakers in astronomy and space science, including Professor Ray Jayawardhana (University of Toronto): ``Worlds Beyond: The Diversity of Extra-Solar Planets''; Ivan Semenuik, Science Journalist, (Dunlop Institute, University of Toronto): ``Superscope! The Future of Cosmic Exploration''; and Peter McMahon, (Discovery Channel): ``Canada's Star Stories: A guide to campsite astronomy in our nation's wild spaces''.
The event will also feature special presentations by CITAzens Neil Barnaby: "The Origin of the Universe," (12:30pm); Latham Boyle: "The Ultimate Whilrpool: when two black holes coalesce," (3:30pm); and Robyn Levine: "The Massive Black Hole in our Galaxy" (1:00pm). All special presentations are located in the Great Hall, Studio 2.
The CITA booth (where CITAzens will take questions about research etc at CITA) will be located in P&G Great Hall Lev-B.
Admission to the festival is free.
