Bond to give prestigious Keys Lecture

CITA Professor Bond gives 2006 Keys Lecture at Trinity College, ``The First Light in the Universe and Cosmic Evolution''

Prof. Richard (Dick) J. Bond, University Professor at the University of Toronto, member of the CITA faculty, and former director of the Institute has been invited to deliver Trinity College’s endowed Keys Lecture, given only every two years, at the University of Toronto on Thursday, Oct. 26, 2006.

The lecture will be entitled ``The First Light in the Universe and Cosmic Evolution'' and will be a publicly-accessible overview of some of the work Prof. Bond is best known for, his pioneering work on cosmic background radiation, the photon afterglow of the Big Bang. He has used the cosmic sound from the early universe to determine what the universe is made of (mostly dark matter and dark energy), its geometry, and the origin and evolution of cosmic structure. The Keys Lecture is one of Trinity College’s endowed lectures and is delivered only once every two years. It is free and will take place at the George Ignatieff Theatre, 15 Devonshire Place, at 12 noon.

About the Canadian Institute for Theoretical Astrophysics. The Canadian Institute for Theoretical Astrophysics (CITA) is a world-class, nationally supported, research center for studies in theoretical astrophysics and related subjects hosted by the University of Toronto. The primary missions of CITA are to foster interaction within the Canadian theoretical astrophysics community and to serve as an international center of excellence for theoretical studies in astrophysics. CITA receives research support from a collaborative special project grant from the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC), as well as the Canadian Institute for Advanced Research (CIAR).
