Magnetism in Stars: Origins, Observations and Opportunities

Workshop
Wed, Oct 28, 2009, 10:00 AM
Location:
MP1318A

Dates: October 28-30, 2009
Organizer: Matt Browning

Workshop Website
Abstract:

This "mini-conference" is an opportunity for solar physicists, stellar astronomers, dynamo theorists, and other interested parties to talk with each other about stellar magnetism. We will discuss how stellar magnetic fields are built, how we can observe them (and what those observations have told us), and how we can learn more.

Wednesday, October 28th
10:00 to 11:00 Coffee and Introduction (Matthew Browning)
11:10 to 12:10 Talk 1 (Mark Miesch on solar mean flows and dynamo activity)
12:10 to 01:10 Talk 2 (Ethan Vishniac on dynamo theory)
01:10 to 03:00 Lunch + Discussion on 15th floor [13th floor occupied till 3:10]
03:10 to 04:00 Talk 3 (Marc Derosa on solar flux transport, winds, and/or cycle 22)
