Tracing the Inhomogeneous Nature of Reionization

Seminar
Mon, Apr 30, 2007, 3:10 PM
Location:
MP408

Daniel Balbich (Caltech)

Abstract:

I will describe two approaches to study the fluctuations
in the ionization fraction produced during the epoch of reionization.
The first will look at how reionization modifies the SEDs of massive
galaxies by changing the star formation histories of their progenitors.
The second method will analyze how patchy reionization affects the
large scale CMB anisotropies. I will describe an estimator that can be
used to reconstruct a map of fluctuations in the Thomson scattering
optical depth from CMB observed maps.
