Health Insurance

All newcomers to CITA are expected to organzie full health coverage for the time they are in Canada. Postdocs and most long term visitors that have a work permit issued by Canadian Immigration will be covered by the Provincial Health Insurance Plan (OHIP) , but this can take up to three monthes to take effect, so temporary insurance is needed to cover the time prior to OHIP coverage. To apply for OHIP, you will need:

• Documentation indicating immigration status in Canada
• Proof of residency, such as a rental agreement
• Identification with name and proof of signature (passport, drivers license, etc.)

During this time, the University Health Insurance Plan (UHIP) may be available for a minimum of one month at an approximate cost of $67 per month. To apply please contact teh University of Toronto Health Services Department.
