Appendix K: LCD Projector
In Dec.'00, CITA acquired an Hitachi CP-X325W XGA Data/Video Projector (S/N G0J000459).
This is a very bright (1400 lumens), compact, and relatively light (7 lbs)
projector which can be simultaneously connected to 2 laptops, a VCR, and a
VHS player (you can toggle through the 4 displays) while sound can be input from one of the
devices. There is a remote control/laserpointer which can also control the mouse on your laptop
if the appropriate connection is made.
This is a VERY expensive machine so handle with care. Make sure you allow the bulb to cool
and don't bang the unit around (replacement bulbs cost at least $500!).
A few tips follow but they're no substitution for reading the manual which is in the
inside pocket of the carrying case.
- slide the lens cover away from the lens
- connect the power cable
- turn on the power using the switch right by the AC input
- press the "standby/on" button on top of the projector (power light
blinks, then turns solid green once the unit is warmed-up)
- adjust zoom and focus as desired (zoom is innermost ring on lens)
- connect the laptop's monitor/RGB port to "RGB IN 1" or 2 on the back panel
(probably best if the laptop is already up)(some laptops may need
a special key sequence [typically a function key or alt-function] to switch their
display to the RGB port)
- to make use of the remote mouse, connect the laptop's PS2/mouse port to the
"control" port on the back panel
- toggle between the 4 possible displays by pressing "input" on the
top of the projector or "video" on the remote (allow a couple of seconds
for the system to adjust)
- remote can be used to pan around and zoom-in on the displayed image
- if the PS/2 port is connected, remote can move the pointer and left and
right-click to give full mouse functionality
- when finished, press the "standby/on" button for about 2 seconds until the power light
starts to flash amber. **Don't turn the power off until cooling is
complete and the power light is solid amber**
